Weave Poles – From 0 to 12

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

When the weave poles become a true favourite

In this online class the step-by-step and well-structured foundation of the weave poles takes centre stage. The training is built progressively and systematically. The course is suitable both for dogs with no previous weave pole experience and for teams where a structured rebuild is beneficial due to insecurities or gaps in understanding. From the very beginning, the focus is on independence, speed, reliable entries and exits and as well as strong listening skills between other obstacles.

Working with (my own) dogs of various breeds and personalities, I share authentic and valuable content in more than 50 lessons supported by approximately one hour of video material and additional diagrams.

What method is behind the training approach?

In addition to specifically training entries on the full set of weave poles, I begin with a channel consisting of only four poles. This allows the dog to experience early success which strengthens confidence from the start and encourages fast, motivated performance. Once the four-pole channel is well established, it is expanded into a full twelve-pole channel. This approach reduces physical strain and enables a gradual, sustainable learning process. Distractions are intentionally introduced early on because confident weave poles are not just about the obstacle itself but also about performing reliably under different conditions.

Another important training tool for me is the use of guides. I use them not only in the initial stages to provide clarity and confidence but also later on to help the dog regain understanding and reinforce the correct behavior whenever a lack of confidence arises.

From what age?

In general I believe that weave pole training shouldn’t begin too early. However, there are preparatory exercises that can be introduced from around 11 months of age, such as working on correct entries. Training with a short four-pole channel is also appropriate at an earlier stage.

Ideally weave pole training is developed across several age-appropriate stages, allowing the process to be tailored to the dog’s physical development and level of maturity.

What equipment?

Depending on which module you are currently working in you will need different weave pole setups. Ideally, you have a channel weave that can be divided into three separate sections.

Alternatively, four training poles are sufficient to simulate a channel in the beginning. Depending on the exercise one to two objects (such as barrels or cones), one to two jumps, and a (short) tunnel will also be used.

How long is access?

The access period for the online class is one full year. All content is available from the start of the course. You can work through the lessons flexibly and individually allowing you to progress step by step at your own pace.

After the access period ends there is the option to extend the course. Alternatively, you can submit a graduation video which will also grant you extended access.

Q&A

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to common questions that may also be on your mind.
What participation options are available?

Auditors can be booked and started at any time – train whenever and wherever you like!

I only offer working spots from time to time and the number of spots is very limited! New starts will be announced primarily via my newsletter and blog and occasionally on social media. If you’re interested, feel free to send me an email as well.

Can I ask questions as an auditor?

Yes, of course! Please note, however, that I cannot address highly individual problems in detail. The focus is on clarifying questions about the exercises themselves. That said, thanks to the detailed exercise descriptions for different dog types I’m confident that very few questions will remain unanswered.

How long do I receive feedback with a working spot?

Working spots receive two months of personalised feedback on team-related questions and training videos. General questions can be asked by anyone – including passive participants – at any time. After this period you also have the option to extend your feedback access.

How long will I have to wait for feedback?

I provide feedback on three fixed days each week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Any submissions (questions or videos) received before 4 p.m. on those days will be answered the same day.

Can I extend the feedback period?

Yes, once the initial period has ended you can continue to book monthly feedback in coordination with me – for as long as you and your dog need it!

Can I extend my course access after it expires?

Yes, you have two options to extend access after the initial one-year period:

  1. Book an extension for additional 3 months

  2. Submit a graduation video with a course testimonial and receive 6 extra months of access for free

What are the technical requirements for participation?

You’ll need an internet-enabled device to access the private member area which contains all course content and the community. Facebook is not required!

If you have a working spot, you should also be able to record videos of yourself and your dog (for example with a smartphone and tripod) and upload them externally (such as to YouTube with a free account).
